Pascal Wehrlein, new Sauber driver has confirmed that he will not be participating in the first pre-season testing of Formula one in Barcelona.
The test gets underway in just over a week. Pascal Wehrlein had hurt his back during the a Race in December owing to which he won’t be participating in the first pre-season test.
The first pre-season test is held in Barcelona starting from 27 February till 2 March. Pascal Wehrlein, the 22-year-old German, had raced for the now-defunct Manor team in 2016. He had rolled his car after a collision accident with Williams driver Felipe Massa at the Race of Champions in Miami. The car had then crashed into barriers which gave Wehrlein a back injury.
Antonio Giovinazzi, Ferrari’s third driver who is 23, is supposed to replace Wehrlein and partner Marcus Ericsson in Barcelona’s first pre-season test.
Wehrlein tweeted had tweeted that his decision of not participating in first pre-season test was based on medical advice he had received for his back injury.
The season-opening Australian Grand Prix will be held in Melbourne on March 26.
