Ebi Porbeni AKA Ebi Eats was a nurse and healthcare social media celebrity who died of leukemia.
Even though his Instagram page was secret, he had 1.2 million followers. “A satirical look of Nurse life Right Now,” his profile stated.
His real name was Ebi Porbeni, according to UK Metro, but he went by the internet handles Ebi Eats and NurseLifeRN. Leukemia was Ebi’s cause of death, according to Metro.
He was born in Nigeria and migrated to Chicago with his family when he was nine years old. After that, he attended Malone University and went on to the University of California, Los Angeles, to study ICU nursing.
His death was verified on his Instagram profile, according to HealthLeadersMedia, with a message that said, “With heavy hearts, we are sad to share Ebi passed away on Tuesday afternoon surrounded by his family and friends.”

Ebi was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2019.
He revealed his illness in an Instagram post in which he described what it was like to start chemotherapy from a hospital bed.
He also had a podcast called NurseSpeak, according to the site, and he posted on social media, “the ins and outs of his life as an ICU nurse at the University of California, Los Angeles.”
Porbeni disclosed he had leukemia a year ago, according to Metro, “First I want to thank you guys for all the love and support after my IG post on the 16th. My Leukemia diagnoses was something I was a little nervous to share but it felt odd to keep it away from a community that I feel so close to. I was also hesitant to make a gofundme because I have no idea how much this hospital stay or subsequent medical care will but it’s been encouraging to hear from so many of you encouraging me to do so.”
The doctor had gathered more than $250,000 through a GoFundMe website he set up to fund his treatment.
The news of Ebi’s death brought enormous sadness to fans. On Facebook, the website Nurse Abnormalities said, “I am shook, saddened and the nursing community is heartbroken. I knew @ebi_eats simply through social media over the last 4 years and he was the kindest, most authentic, human being for which you could ever come into contact.”
They added, “He somehow managed to be a diplomat that could bring us all together through humor and the expression of the nurse life. He had such a talent and a gift to uplift the nursing community. To say he will be missed is an understatement. We all love you Ebi”
