Who is Edward Shames?

Edward Shames is the wife of United States Army enlisted man and officer Ida Aframe.

Colonel Edward David Shames was an enlisted man and officer in the United States Army who later served in the Army Reserve.

He served in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division during WWII.


Edward Shames was 99 years old and his wife Ida Aframe was 96 years old.

On September 25, 1942, Edward Shames enrolled in the United States Army. Shames learned about the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and applied for duty with them.

He was assigned to I Company, 3rd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and began his training there as a private.

Shames was promoted to Operations Sergeant in England.

Shames worked for the National Security Agency as a Middle East expert from 1945 to 1982 after World War II.

He was also a colonel in the United States Army Reserve when he resigned in 1973. He married Ida Aframe in 1946 and they had a 73-year marriage till his wife passed away on February 21, 2019, at the age of 96.

Shames died on December 3, 2021, at the age of 99, at his home in Norfolk.
