In Egypt, a football coach named El-Selhadar died after ecstatically celebrating his team’s late winning goal in a second-tier match.

El Magd manager Adham El-Selhadar stood by as his team scored in the 92nd minute of an Egyptian Second League match against El Zarqa on Thursday.

He was 53 years old.

Career

El Magd has established a six-day mourning period and has postponed their next match. El-Sehadar had a successful playing career in addition to being a well-known manager.

In the 1990s, he won the Egyptian Premier League and also the Egyptian Cup with Ismaily.

Later, he returned as a manager and established himself as a well-known coach in the country.

With their win on Thursday, El Magd moved up to seventh place in the second division, with 14 points after nine games.

How Did Football Coach El-Selhadar Die?

However, the festivities were cut short when El-Selhadar suffered a heart attack and was transported to the hospital.

And now, on the news of his passing, Egypt’s leading clubs Al Ahly SC and Ismaily SC – both of whom El Selhadar used to manage – have paid their respects to the coach.

Al Ahly issued a statement that read, “Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the club, and the members of the board of directors, mourn with great sadness and sorrow, Coach Adham El-Selhadar, the former Ismaily player, who passed away on Thursday, praying to the Almighty to cover the deceased with his vast mercy and enter him into his vast gardens.”

Ismaily added, “The Ismaily Board of Directors, headed by Engineer Yahya El-Komy, mourns the death of Adham El-Selhadar, a star and former coach of the team, who passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, following his follow-up to the match of his team, “El-Majd” Alexandria, in the second division league competitions.

“Against this background, the Board of Directors declared 3 days of mourning for the soul of the late.”
