Jean-Louis Xavier Trintignant was a racecar driver, actor, and director from France. He made his stage debut in 1951 and went on to become one of the most talented French dramatic performers of the postwar era, featuring in a number of classic European films.
In 2003, after his daughter Marie was battered to death by her rock star lover, he received widespread popular sympathy in France.

- In 2013, he received the Cesar Award in France for Michael Haneke’s “Amour,” which went on to win the Oscar for a best foreign-language film that year.
- In 1966, Trintignant catapulted to international popularity in Claude Lelouch’s “A Man and a Woman,” in which he played a lovesick racing car driver opposite French stunner Anouk Aimée. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay and best foreign-language film.
Jean-Louis Trintignant Cause Of Death
After a protracted fight with prostate cancer, Trintignant died on Friday at his home in the Gard region of southern France. Marianne, his wife, told Agence France-Presse that he had died.
In 2017, the actor revealed his cancer diagnosis and announced his retirement from the film industry, but he returned from retirement for “The Best Years of a Life,” in which he reunited with Aimée 53 years later for the epilogue to Lelouch’s classic romantic drama.

Jean-Louis Trintignant, the French actor closely associated with the European new waves of the 1960s and 70s, has died aged 91. He worked with many leading directors including Claude Lelouch, Claude Chabrol, Costa-Gavras, Bernardo Bertolucci, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Michael Haneke.
