According to reports, an eighth-grade student named Mkayla Robinson in Mississippi died of COVID-19 just hours after receiving a positive test result.
According to the Mississippi Free Press, Mkayla Robinson attended school in Smith County, Mississippi for the majority of last week before dying to the virus’s complications on Aug. 14.
She was 13 years old.

On Sunday, it was unclear whether Robinson, a member of the junior high band, had got the vaccination.
Students were not compelled to wear face covers when school reopened on August 6, although they may if they wanted to.
However, 76 students and 11 educators in the district tested positive within the first few days of school, prompting an additional 411 students and 11 educators to be quarantined, according to the newspaper. On August 10, the school voted to make masks mandatory.
According to the Mississippi Free Press, the district issued a statement saying, “After much consideration for the welfare of our children, Smith County Schools will require all personnel and students to wear a mask,”

Mississippi enforced masks in schools last fall, but Governor Tate Reeves indicated at a press conference on Friday that he had “no intention” of enacting a mask rule this year. He said, “I don’t have any intention of issuing a statewide mask mandate for any category of Mississippians at this time. I don’t know how I can say that differently other than the way I’ve said it repeatedly for a number of days and weeks and months,”
