After a possible heist at a high-end watch store, a shopper passed away. While in front of the upscale jewelry store Mappin & Webb in York, Samuel Diatta became ill.
He apparently had to be restrained by bystanders during the incident and resides in the city. Police reported that after being taken to York District Hospital, he passed away.
Three men—two in their 40s and one in his 50s—were taken into custody and later freed on bail. At around 4.40 p.m., North Yorkshire Police were summoned to the store in response to numerous disturbance reports.
The shopper had “medical difficulties” prior to his death, a spokeswoman stated. His death’s cause is the subject of an investigation, currently. The deceased man was referred to as a “client” by Mappin & Webb in an earlier statement, which read: “Our thoughts are with the client’s family at this time.”
As police investigated the incident’s circumstances, a cordon was established. Steve Menzies, a detective, said: “Samuel’s family are being supported by specially-trained officers and I would ask that their privacy is respected to allow them time to grieve.”
