Juanita Jackson worked as Stonewall Jackson’s business manager. Turp Tunes, his song publishing company, was also run by her.

Stonewall was residing on a farm in Brentwood, Tennessee, in a complex, he named “Lake Waterloo,” a nickname he had given to the facility for decades.

Wesley Rose, head of Acuff-Rose Music, arranged for Jackson to audition for the Grand Ole Opry after hearing his demo tape.

Jackson was the first musician to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry without having signed a recording deal.

Ernest Tubb, who later became his mentor, accompanied him on tour. In 1958, Jackson signed with Columbia Records.

Jackson sued the Grand Ole Opry in 2006, claiming age discrimination and seeking $10 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Jackson, who had been a member of the Opry for almost fifty years, feared he was being overlooked in favor of newer singers by management.

Jackson claimed in his court petition that Opry general manager Pete Fisher said he didn’t “want any gray hairs on that stage or in the audience, and there won’t be any before I’m done.”

Jackson was also allegedly warned by Fisher that he was “too old and too country.”

On October 3, 2008, the case was settled for an unknown sum, and Jackson resumed his appearances on the show. From 1956 to the present, he was a member of the Opry.
