Who is Markeith Loyd?

Markeith Loyd was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of an Orlando police officer in 2017.

A jury unanimously recommended that Markeith Loyd be executed for the murder of Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton on Wednesday.

The 12-member jury discussed for nearly five hours over two days whether Loyd should be sentenced to death for the 2017 murder of Clayton.


He is 46 years old.

Death Penalty

Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon issued a statement in which he stated, “In the years since her death Lieutenant Clayton’s loved ones and entire OPD family waited for the day when the defendant would be held accountable for his heinous crimes. He will now face the highest penalty provided by law.”

On Twitter, the Orlando Police Department wrote, “Lt. Clayton believed in building relationships with the community. We will always remember our friend & coworker, & will do our best to live her legacy,”

Clayton’s sacrifice, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, “will never be forgotten.”

Loyd was found guilty of the murder of the Orlando Police Lieutenant.

Debra Clayton’s family spoke out on television shortly after the sentencing recommendation was announced. The sentencing trial for Markeith Loyd ended Tuesday afternoon with closing arguments.

However, before the case was presented to the jury, Loyd was nearly tossed out of the courtroom for protesting aloud.

Seth Clayton said, “I’m glad this is over. it’s been a long time coming. It’s been five years almost. I’m just happy it’s over,”

Loyd was questioned by Judge Leticia Marques, “Am I going to hear another word out of you?”

“If he talks again, he’s out.”

What Happened To Markeith Loyd Eye?

Loyd had been severely beaten. He was kicked, punched, and hit in the back and face, resulting in significant injuries, including the loss of his left eye.
