Who Is The Shooter At Winston-Salem High School?

A boy was shot at a high school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Wednesday, and investigators are “actively hunting the suspect,” according to a county spokesperson.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at Mount Tabor High School on the city’s northwest side.

All other children are safe, according to Forsyth County spokesman Christina Howell in a text message to CNN. The injured student, whose identity was not published, was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The school was put on lockdown following the gunshot, according to the sheriff’s office on Twitter.

According to CNN.com, Howell said, “Many high schools in the area are also on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. There has not been another incident but it is out of an abundance of caution,”

The sheriff’s office said, “We are actively investigating what happened and will share confirmed information when available,”

What Happened?

CNN reported that the gunshot occurred just afternoon. There were no immediate details on what led up to it.

Students were being escorted to a Harris Teeter grocery store in Whitaker Square after the incident to be reunited with their parents, according to city officials and the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office had previously designated a separate location. Following the incident, multiple law enforcement cars were spotted parked on both sides of a street near the school on Wednesday, according to footage from CNN.

According to a student at the school, the school was put on lockdown after an announcement was made over the intercom CNN reported. “Officers department, put your hands up!” yelled police with firearms around 10 minutes later.

Officers escorted the pupils to a different part of the campus, telling them that they could bring their cellphones, but that they must, “Everybody stand up. Leave your bags in place.”
